Privacy Policy

BuckledApp is built by Boldnition. This policy explains what information the BuckledApp mobile app, buckledapp.com and our merchant and organization portals collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. "We", "us" and "BuckledApp" refer to Boldnition.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve our safety and family services:

  • Account information: email address, display name, family member names, Buckle Code, and basic profile details. Sign in with Apple or Google shares the name and email you approve.
  • Location and motion data: GPS speed and device motion, used to detect when a vehicle is moving and to start and end a protected drive.
  • Safety photos: the short seatbelt selfie taken during a seatbelt check, and any photo or video you choose to share from the app.
  • Safety events: seatbelt check results, Driver Focus sessions, protected-day streaks, safety score, and whether BuckledApp is turned on and its permissions are complete.
  • Usage data: app interactions and screens viewed, collected through Firebase Analytics and Google Analytics, plus device type, OS version and app version.
  • Subscription information: your Safety+ or fan club membership status and store transaction identifiers. We never see your full card number.
  • Information you send us: pricing requests, support messages and data deletion requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Detect driving, run the seatbelt check and enforce Driver Focus in real time.
  • Verify seatbelt use through AI image analysis.
  • Show parents with Safety+ their child’s protection status (BuckledApp on or off, last buckled, setup complete) and send safety notifications.
  • Show organizations which enrolled members have completed setup and are protected.
  • Deliver fan club memberships, punch cards and offers from merchants you join.
  • Send location-based offers from local merchants, only if you opted in to those notifications.
  • Process subscriptions and memberships, and provide customer support.
  • Understand how the app is used so we can improve safety features and the onboarding experience.

3. Data Security & Sharing

Your family’s safety and privacy are our priorities:

  • Encryption: data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on Google Cloud / Firebase.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Service providers: we rely on Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, notifications, analytics), Google Gemini (AI seatbelt analysis), Apple and Google (in-app purchases), Stripe (web payments) and Netlify (website hosting). They process data only to provide their service to us.
  • Parents: with Safety+, a parent linked to a child account sees the child’s protection status and last buckled time. Parents never see a live map or route history.
  • Organizations: an organization you join with an organization code sees your name, whether BuckledApp is on, whether setup is complete, and your seatbelt-check outcomes for that organization.
  • Merchants: a merchant whose fan club or punch card you join sees your name and membership activity, not your location or driving data.
  • Legal: we may disclose information when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

4. Location Services

Location access is essential for automatic drive detection:

  • GPS speed and device motion are used to detect when the vehicle reaches the trigger speed and when it has stopped.
  • Background location lets BuckledApp detect a drive while the phone is locked or in your pocket.
  • We do not build a map of where you go and do not show route history to anyone, including parents and organizations.
  • Location-based merchant offers, if you opt in, use your position only to decide whether to show an offer near you.
  • You can turn location off at any time in your device settings. BuckledApp cannot detect drives without it, and organization or child accounts will show “Setup needed” until it is re-enabled.

5. Camera & Photo Access

The camera is used for seatbelt verification:

  • A photo is taken only during a seatbelt check, when a drive has started, or when you start a check yourself.
  • The seatbelt photo is sent securely to Google’s Gemini AI to determine whether a seatbelt is worn and whether you are the driver or a passenger. The image is used for that analysis and is not used to build a profile of you.
  • The result of the check (buckled / not buckled, driver / passenger) is what we store, not the selfie itself.
  • Photos and videos you choose to share (for example a post-drive photo or a fan club share) are uploaded to our storage so they can be delivered to the people you share them with.
  • You may save photos to your device gallery; that copy stays on your device.

6. Subscriptions & Payments

Payment information is handled by the store or payment processor, not by us:

  • In-app Safety+ purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive a transaction identifier and subscription status, never your card details.
  • Safety+ bought on buckledapp.com, fan club memberships and merchant subscriptions are processed by Stripe under Stripe’s privacy policy.
  • Subscription status is synced to your account so premium features unlock on every device you sign in on.
  • Cancel anytime: in-app subscriptions through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings; web purchases through the Safety+ page or by emailing support.

7. Your Rights & Choices

You have control over your data:

  • Access and review your account information in the app.
  • Delete your account and associated data from Settings in the app, or request deletion at buckledapp.com/datadelete.
  • Control location, motion, camera and notification permissions in your device settings.
  • Opt out of merchant offer notifications in the app.
  • Manage family members: parents can add, view and remove child accounts from the Safety+ tab.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under GDPR or CCPA) to access, correct, port or delete your data. Email us to exercise them.

8. Children’s Privacy

Child accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian:

  • A child account can only be created by a parent with Safety+, who consents to the collection described here on the child’s behalf.
  • We collect from children only what is needed to run safety monitoring: name, seatbelt check results, protection status and the location/motion data used to detect a drive.
  • Parents control and can delete the child account at any time, which removes the child’s data.
  • We do not show children advertising or merchant offers targeted to them, and we do not sell children’s data.
  • If you believe a child has provided us information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data Retention

We keep data only as long as necessary:

  • Account data: until you delete your account or ask us to delete it.
  • Safety events and streaks: kept while your account is active so your history, score and streak work; deleted with the account.
  • Seatbelt photos: processed for the check and not kept in your account history.
  • Subscription records: as long as required for billing, refunds and tax purposes.
  • Analytics: retained per Google Analytics’ default retention settings, in aggregated form.

We may update this privacy policy periodically:

  • The current version and effective date are always shown at the top of this page.
  • Material changes will be announced in the app or by email before they take effect.
  • Continued use of BuckledApp after a change means you accept the updated policy; where the law requires it, we will ask for your explicit consent.
